We Seal Your Marble Countertop at Installation

Our marble countertops are sealed during the installation process. The sealer protects marble from staining that can be caused by the color pigments found in liquids, juices, and sauces. But be sure to wipe up the spill right away – the sealer buys you time before the spill penetrates the stone and becomes a stain.

This initial sealer will generally last 1 to 2 years, depending on type of marble. The variance in how long the initial sealer will last is due to marble being a natural material, and as a result, no two marble slabs are the same.

When Should I Reseal My Marble Countertop?

Because of the porous nature of marble countertops, we highly recommend annual sealing. You can test the effectiveness of the sealer by dripping a puddle of water on the surface. If the puddle darkens quickly, then sealing is required immediately. If it takes several minutes to darken, then your sealer is working.

Routine Cleaning of Your Marble Countertop

Marble countertops are easy to clean. The key is to use mild detergents that are pH neutral mixed with water and a soft, clean cloth. Many homeowners keep a spray bottle of diluted pH neutral cleaner and a microfiber cloth handy for everyday cleaning. How Do I Remove a Tough Stain in my Marble Countertop?

If you do have a stain on your countertop that won’t clean up with a pH neutral cleaner, we carry products that are specially formulated to remove tough stains. An Important Note About Marble Etching

Marble is vulnerable to acids, and sealer will not protect marble from "etching". Etching occurs when acidic juice, sauce, or liquid spills are left on the counter. For spills that aren’t cleaned up in a reasonable amount of time, the acids penetrate the pores of the marble, creating a dullness in the surface. Interestingly, etching can often add to the natural aged look of marble, but there are times when it doesn’t – so we recommend cleaning up acid-based liquid spills right away to prevent etching.
