How to Reseal Your Natural Stone Countertop
We recommend sealing with VanHearron StainGuard 5000. This premium sealer is available through Capital Stone and has proven to be long-lasting, easy to apply, and is oil, water, and stain resistant. Follow these instructions to seal your natural stone countertop:
- Clean the countertop with a pH neutral cleaner. These cleaners are available at Capital Stone and include VanHearron Mighty Indigo, VanHearron All-In-One, and ECOS All-Purpose Cleaner. Our experts can help you choose the right cleaner for your countertop. DO NOT use cleaners that are acidic, citrus-based, or ones that contain harsh chemicals. Only use pH neutral cleaners that are clearly marked as such.
- Rinse with clean water. Let the countertop dry overnight.
- Apply sealer with a clean paper towel or a clean, soft rag. Let the sealer sit for 5 minutes (no more).
- Apply a second coat of sealer to make sure it has fully penetrated the stone (sealer will start pooling on the top of the stone once it has fully penetrated). Some stones will accept more or less sealer than others depending on porosity.
- Wipe off excess sealer with a clean, soft paper towel or cloth. Make sure you’ve wiped it down completely, leaving no puddles of sealer on the surface.
