No Sealing Required, Apply Oil When Needed, Easy Maintenance
Soapstone is non-porous, which means they it is naturally stain resistant, and does not require sealing.
While many homeowners choose to leave their countertop untreated, we suggest the use of either mineral oil or soapstone wax to help accent the natural beauty of soapstone.
Oiling or waxing darkens the surface and helps with the natural aging process. The number of coats you apply is also an aesthetic choice. The more coats you apply, the darker the countertop will appear. The frequency of re-oiling or re-waxing is completely up to you because it is an aesthetic choice.
Soapstone countertops are easy to clean. Because soapstone is a dense stone, any common household cleaner will work. However, we recommend using pH neutral cleaners because harsher cleaning agents will remove some or all the mineral oil or soapstone wax you have applied. At Capital Stone, we carry pH neutral cleaners that are designed specifically to clean natural stone surfaces.
