Understanding Countertop Costs
yesterday
Setting a budget is essential for any large home project. When shopping for granite, quartzite, marble, or quartz countertops, distributors often quote stone per square foot, but this initial price rarely includes all installation and fabrication costs. This simple breakdown explains what to expect when pricing your countertop with Capital Stone.
1. Stone Pricing (Slab Cost & Tiered Pricing)
- Not all stone suppliers are fabricators. Local suppliers across the Capital Region help you select the slab but do not cut or install it. A slab's retail price does not reflect the final installed cost; that quote will come from your fabricator.
- When suppliers do not list a direct price per square foot, the material is categorized into price tiers (A, B, or C). These tiers indicate the stone's pricing level based on factors like rarity and wholesale cost, which your fabricator uses to apply the correct pricing structure when calculating your final project quote.
2. Receiving a Quote
- To receive a total cost quote from Capital Stone Saratoga or Schenectady, we require a drawn layout with approximate dimensions to determine the total square footage.
- We use this information, along with your chosen slab details, to calculate the full project cost, including both the stone price and involved labor.
- If you are working with a specific budget, let your sales representative know; they can help you find slabs that fit your price range.
3. Additional Costs (Standard Inclusions & Extras)
- Capital Stone includes many standard labor costs at no extra charge, such as template and installation fees (for drives under one hour), two standard edging options, one sink cut-out, and an undermount stainless steel sink if needed.
- Additional costs can apply for elements like waterfall edges, backsplashes, decorative edging, cooktop cut-outs, additional sinks, removal and disposal, and support brackets.
- Never hesitate to reach out to your sales team at Capital Stone with any questions or concerns regarding your quote.
The initial price per square foot is just the starting point. Capital Stone will put together a full quote showing all costs and work with you to find the perfect countertops within your budget. We are proud to serve homeowners across New York State from Albany to Lake George.
